Pain(t) in the ass
This evening Dwarf, Stoffer and me (Jens) went out to Visby harbor to paint our exhibition booth for Gotland Game Awards. The paint for the sky drained out so we’ll probably finish it tomorrow. In the front we’ll also have paper cut-outs of buildings shown here. There will also be a 46 inch TV in the middle and two 42 inch at the sides.
Preparing for Gotland Game Awards
Yesterday we got our printed stuff for our game booth at Gotland Game Awards next week. We have an idea of layering the booth with cut out silhouettes of houses in a similar way like Penalty of Heroes is done. We’ll also try to paint a sky behind the silhouettes and in the middle there will be a nice 46 inch TV showing PoH (we’ll probably have two 42 inch TV:s at each sides also). The picture is taken at our office where we tried how it would work.
We also got a nice poster that Nixi has done as promotion for PoH. We’ll have two of these to the left and right. That’s our plan right now anyway : )
Marketing = evil/bad !?!
Since I’m the “evil marketing guy” Databox Games (not just the Scrum master), I will open up and blog a little about “marketing”.
Every time you hear or read the word MARKETING it sounds negative and especially if “marketing” is connected to a product or a game it sounds really negative. In general I would agree that marketing is in many cases a way to “brain wash” people and convince them that a product is worth buying.
Today marketing is crucial to if a company make or loses money. A “general rule” is that a company should spend ¼ of their income on “marketing” (web, TV, papers, and so on), so it’s huge amount that’s spend on marketing every day. So if we at Databox Games going to spend ¼ of our money on Penalty of Heroes marketing I would guess I have just about 0 euro/dollar/sek to spend :p
So is all marketing bad? YES! No just joking : ) I think marketing, when it’s INNOVATING, FUNNY or HELPING, is really great.
Innovation = example: Viral marketing on the Internet
Funny = example: Great and funny TV commercials
Helping = example: Telling you that there’s a sale
An example of this is Spike Jonze IKEA commercial “the lamp”. I’m a sucker for IKEA commercials so if you like “the lamp” just “you tube” other great commercials like “spaghetti”, “parents” and so on : )

* I will continue to talk more about marketing here on our blog
